Auchinvole House at 41 Main St, is #12 on the Town of Gananoque’s self guided tour. Its description there reads:
“It was built in the early 1800’s of locally quarried sandstone by Alexander Auchinvole, the owner of a local tannery business. This is the only building in Gananoque with a balcony overhanging the sidewalk.” (Copies of the tour are available at the Gananoque and 1000 Island Visitor Centre, 10 King East.)
Useful to know if you are exploring the area on your own.
– The park to the north of this building has a stone inscribed with some interesting historical information.
– Across the street you can see the once grand Blinkbonnie home for many years to one of Gananoque founding families.
